Let’s talk Lace

Planning the most magical night of your entire life or as we put it, ليلة العمر  can be quite stressful and overwhelming, the reason why it’s very important to have someone with a beautiful aura share the load of designing it. Someone who can calm you down with a bright smile, someone who can bring Paris’s ethereal romance to your backyard, someone who can make a Tuscan wedding happen; someone who believes in love, laces, candles, roses, and magic.

Tell us a little bit about Sarah Al Dabbagh.
I’m a 25-year-old Saudi, who was born and raised in the city of Jeddah. After my secondary education, I moved to Boston MA where I received a bachelors degree in early childhood education.

I’ve always wanted to be a wedding planner. Ever since I could remember, I’ve had a great passion for ceremony and celebration, spending my days dressing Barbie dolls as little brides, to making wedding scrapbooks filled with little cutouts and pictures.

The first wedding I planning was my cousin’s  and that was when I was still in my senior year of college. And as the guests congratulated me at the end of that wonderful evening, I knew that no matter how tired or worn down I was; nothing could beat the joy of turning people’s wishes and dreams into reality. From then on, my love flourished into a passion… and then came Lace.

The reason I picked {Lace} was simple. Not only is it my favorite form of material, it is a word that all brides could relate to. I wanted something that was timeless, which reflects on how I like my events to be.

Fashion plays a big part in my field, clothes and fabrics are a major source of inspiration for me and so I’m constantly aware of what’s going on around me in the fashion world.

What/Who influences your taste in fashion?
Audrey Hepburn, in every possible way! Her fashion sense, beauty, charm, and needless to mention, timeless movies.

Tell us about your favorite era in the context of fashion and the qualities that fascinate you about this specific era.
The 50’s! I just love everything about that era, the fashion, the singers, the actors and the movies! All the puffy tulle skirts and short dresses, the shirts, the swim suits, the hairdos and the elegance. Everything was just prettier and better back then.

What’s your favorite city/shopping district?
As much as I love Paris, I’m going to have to say New York is my favorite. There’s something about this city that just makes me happy!

Screen Shot 2012-12-16 at 12.48.28 PMBeing someone who has an exceptional eye for design and detail, any regional designers caught your attention recently? What do you appreciate most about their work?
I’m going to have to say Razan Al Azzouni because she’s an extremely talented designer and a true artist. Razan has a style of her own, an eye for detail, and her creations are elegant and timeless. Unfortunately nowadays I have noticed that many associate fashion with just spikes and neons. Razan brings grace to the Arab fashion world.

Tell us about a gown that means a lot to you.
This 1950’s Chrisitan Dior gown. I first saw this dress when I was 9 years old on a trip to Paris with my family, we walked into Dior and my mom was going through pictures of old gowns, I remember telling the saleswoman to hand me a copy of this picture to keep, saying that one day I’ll come back to her and ask her to make it for me. This is a photo of the gown:

Sara’s favorite picks from the recent Bridal Market runway.
To be honest, there wasn’t a collection this year from the bridal market that I was in love with, but if I had to pick, then it’ll be a few pieces from Oscar de la Renta’s collection, the detailed Lace work and the head piece!

We have always been fascinated by beautiful wedding veils; can you describe your favorite?
As much as a wedding dress is important, to me, a veil is what makes a dress. I love a detailed veil, an art piece, I just love the concept and beauty of how a veil covers the bride’s face, and then when pulled back it’s this beautiful addition to her hairdo. Those are two of my favorite veils:
